Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was born on 15th October in 1931 at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. His father’s name was Jainulabdeen and mother’s name was Ashiamma.jainulabdeen was the owner of a boat and mother was a housewife. Kalam was the youngest of five siblings. At the time of Kalam’s birth his family was in a very bad state. Because most of the money and land is lost by business. So from his early age onwards he helped his family.
After his graduation, he became a member of the :Defence Research and Development Organisations”(DRDO). One of his projects at (DRDO) was to design a helicopter for the Indian Army. After that he worked under the space scientist Vikram Sarabhai. In 1969 Kalam joined the “Indian Space Research Organization” (ISRO). The main project of Kalam was the Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III).
He was the head of the project. He was an Assistant professor at Anna University in Chennai and served as visiting professor in many academics. Kalam received 7 doctorates and in 1981 the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan, for his work in ISRO and DRDO. He got Padma Vibhushan in the year 1990 and the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna in the year 1997.
In 1999 A.P.J Abdul Kalam published his autobiography “Wings of Fire”.
